Ultiboard (26/10/2012)

WORKSHOP

ASSALAMUALAIKUM

Hello guys, today i have to write with new blog due to my old blog have problem with the account. Very difficult to face this problem, but i have to go on.

This week I would like to focus with Ultiboard software. Last Tuesday (23 October 2012), Mr Redzuan teach us in detail about Ultiboard software. But in 2 hours is not enough to cover all the function to be used in Ultiboard software. No great work is ever done in a hurry.

Today I will describe about Ultiboard. Ultiboard provides an easy and intuitive platform to design Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). The flexible Ultiboard design environment offers automated functionality for speed and manual techniques for precise control. With complete integration to NI Multisim, Ultiboard helps us optimize PCB design. Ultiboard act quickly as prototype whether for professional designs or academic researcher.

Below is the lab sheet we use to practice using the Ultiboard software:

                                                            content of lab sheet

Below is the sample of circuit that have been complete design using Ultiboard.

The number below is the function of the button in picture above:

1 Menu Bar
2 Standard Toolbar
3 Select Toolbar
4 Draw Settings Toolbar
5 View Toolbar
6 Main Toolbar
7 Autoroute Toolbar
8 Status Bar
9 Workspace
10 Spreadsheet View
11 Design Toolbox
12 3D Preview
13 Birds Eye view

Ultiboard includes the following toolbars:

Standard Toolbar — Use for basic editing functions.

View Toolbar — Use to modify the way the screen is displayed.

Main Toolbar — Use for common board design functions.

Select Toolbar — Use to control selection filters.

Draw Settings Toolbar — Use to select the layer, thickness and unit of
measure of a line or object that is being drawn. This toolbar also
contains buttons for functions that control the appearance of lines and
shapes drawn on any layer except a copper layer.

Edit Toolbar — Use for editing specific elements, including in-place
editing and orientation.

Align Toolbar — Use to align and space design elements.

Place Toolbar — Use to place elements such as traces, lines and
polygons on the design.

Wizard Toolbar — Contains the wizard functions.

Autoroute Toolbar — Contains the autorouting and placement
functions.

The Spreadsheet View contains the following tabs:

Results — Search results are displayed here, as well as connectivity
check results.

DRC — Displays errors (for example, Design Rule Errors) and
warnings as they occur while you work.

Parts — Use to view and edit information about the parts in your
design.

Part groups — Use to work with part groups.

Nets — Use to work with the nets in your design.

Net groups — Use to work with net groups.

SMT pads — Use to work with pads for surface-mount devices.

THT pads — Use to work with pads for through-hole technology
devices.

Vias — Use to work with vias.

Copper areas — Use to work with copper areas.

Keep-ins/Keep-outs — Use to work with information for keep-in or
keep-out areas.

Copper layers — Use to work with layers.

Parts position — Use to view and edit part position information.

Statistics — Displays statistics such as total number of pins,
unconnected pins, and number of vias in a design.

DESIGN TOOLBOX
Design toolbox is used to manage our design by controlling major parts of Ultiboard function.

The Design Toolbox is made up of two tabs:

1) The Project tab is we use to view the project that are currently open. Each project may contain one or more designs. We have to double click on a particular design to make it active view.

2) The Layers tab is to use to move between layers of our design, control appearance of layers and perform other function.

                                                Import netlist

Picture above showed after the Multisim have been convert into Ultiboard. Make sure all fields are selected in Import Netlist Action selection and click [OK].

                                         Circuit

After click the OK, the picture will appear like above picture. Then we can arrange the component.

Only this info I can to you all because this lesson still not completed yet. Maybe next week I will describe more about Ultiboard. The next step will be continue next week.

See you all next week.
